Birchville girl on screen at Cannes?
<p>A young girl from Birchville could appear on the big screen at next year's Cannes Film Festival for her work in the New Zealand-made short film River Castle.</p> <p>Annemieke van Gent, 10, successfully auditioned for one of the lead roles, Kathy, earlier this year and then spent five days filming in the Wairarapa.</p> <p>The film will be submitted to various film festivals including next year's short film category at the Cannes Film Festival.</p> <p>Annemieke's said she enjoyed the experience of making the film, especially making friends with the rest of the cast and would definitely do it again.</p> <p>Director of the film Pavel Kvatch said Annemieke has a lot of potential as an actress.</p> <p>Annemieke is a drama student at Arts a Go Go at the Upper Hutt YMCA and first got into acting because her sister went there.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
