We have lived, until recently, in a world of growing global trade and dying small local businesses. We have lived in a world where the members of our most connected social group might live anywhere on the globe and yet we don't know the people who live next door.

But that's all changing. Economic decline, climate change and finite global resources are causing us to rethink our ambitions for endless global growth at the expense of the community around us.

It's time to focus on local economic problems rather than global ones, to talk to our neighbors, to fix the problems in our own back yards before trying to solve everyone else's.
